The National Testing Agency (NTA) determines the eligibility criteria for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE) for admission to Sainik Schools in India. 

Here’s a breakdown of the eligibility requirements for admission to Class 6th and 9th in Sainik Schools for the academic year 2025-26:

Class 6th eligibility
  • Age Limit: Candidates should be between 10 and 12 years old as of March 31, 2025.
    • This means students should have been born between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2015, (inclusive).
  • Education Qualification: Candidates must be studying in or have passed Class 5 from a recognized school at the time of admission.
  • Gender: Both boys and girls are eligible to apply for Class 6 admission.
  • Nationality: Only Indian Nationals can apply for AISSEE 2025-26. 
Class 9th eligibility
  • Age Limit: Candidates should be between 13 and 15 years old as of March 31, 2025. This includes birth dates between April 1, 2010, and March 31, 2012.
  • Education Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 8 from a recognized school at the time of admission.
  • Gender: Both boys and girls can apply, with girls’ admission subject to vacancy availability.
  • Nationality: Only Indian Nationals can apply.

  • Reservations: Reservations are available for various categories including SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), home state students, and wards of defense personnel.
  • Minimum Marks: Generally, candidates need at least 25% in each subject and an overall aggregate of 40% in AISSEE 2025 to qualify.
  • Relaxations: Age relaxation may be available for children of certain defense personnel and SC/ST students.
  • Approved New Sainik Schools: Some new Sainik Schools have different admission criteria regarding domicile and reservation.
